First Look: ForKids to Unveil Design for $17M South Norfolk Project
NORFOLK, Va. – At the South Norfolk Civic League Holiday Potluck Monday, December 10th, ForKids will give Chesapeake residents their first, highly anticipated look at the building design of the ForKids Center for Children and Families. This same community sent a resounding vote of approval for this project to the Chesapeake City Council just a year ago and believes it will be an important catalyst for revitalization.
The dinner meeting, open to the public, will begin at 6pm Monday at the South Norfolk Community Center, 1217 Godwin Avenue, Chesapeake. It is anticipated that Chesapeake City Council members, as well as many Chesapeake business owners, will be in attendance to get their first glimpse at a project that will relocate 100 employees into this historic, tight-knit community eager for growth and a return to its glory days of the last century.
ForKids has collaborated with architects Tymoff + Moss and Hourigan Construction for more than two years on project programming and the design of the Center for Children and Families.
The new center is part of a $20 million capital campaign chaired by Frank Batten, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Landmark Media Enterprises, LLC. The Landmark Community Foundation provided the lead gift to the campaign of $2.5 million. The Campaign also includes a new $2+ million Regional Service Center in Suffolk to serve Western Tidewater which was dedicated on November 8th and a $1 million endowment.
