Chief Executive Officer, Thaler McCormick just celebrated her 20th year with ForKids, serving as Services Director for five years and Chief Executive Officer since 2001. She holds a BS in business from Miami University and a master’s degree in urban and environmental planning from the University of Virginia School of Architecture. Prior to her work with ForKids, Thaler worked as a senior consultant for Arthur Andersen in Washington, D.C. and wrote on housing and development issues for the Urban Land Institute.
Chief Operations Officer, Bill Young oversees the day to day operations of ForKids. Before taking on the newly created COO position in 2014, Bill served as Chief Development Officer for five years. Bill brings over 15 years of private sector experience to ForKids, most recently from Beaufort Advisors, a small healthcare consulting firm and previously as a partner in Taste Unlimited until negotiating its sale in 2006. He holds an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and a BA in economics from the University of Virginia.
Chief Services Officer, Sarah Johnson joined ForKids in 2009 and oversees all services programs including case management, clinical services, housing, job placement and education. Previously, Sarah provided individual, group and family therapy at The Pines Residential Treatment Center and Hampton Roads Youth Center. She received her BSW from Daemen College in Buffalo, NY and her MSW from the University at Buffalo School of Social Work.
Chief Financial Officer, Boyd Orr joined ForKids in September 2016. Boyd directs the financial aspects of ForKids, including budget development, financial reporting, annual external audit, payroll and benefits. Boyd is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of St Andrews, Scotland and his Master of Accounting from the College of William and Mary, VA. Prior to coming to ForKids, Boyd was the Director of Finance for a local nonprofit and Senior Accountant for Wall Einhorn & Chernitzer, P.C.
Chief Development Officer, Sharhonda Woods joined ForKids in January 2017 and oversees the Development Department and all agency development and marketing initiatives. Sharhonda brings over 10 years of development experience to her roll at ForKids, including her most recent position as Vice President of Development with National Multiple Sclerosis Society and prior to that, Senior Director of Resource Development at United Way. She holds a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Troy University and a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama.
Crisis Response Manager, Shirley Brackett has been with ForKids for four years and has led the Housing Crisis Hotline since 2015. Under her leadership, the hotline has increased its geographic footprint, doubled in call volume, improved efficiency, while continuing to provide client-centered, trauma-informed customer service to callers.
Shirley holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Springfield College. Prior to joining the ForKids team, she spent 18 years managing programs for at-risk and underserved youth and families at YMCAs in Orange County, CA and Newport News, VA.
Senior Director of Development, Juanita Dowdy has almost 20 years’ experience in finance, data and grants management, and nonprofit fundraising. She has worked in many capacities at ForKids, serving as Bookkeeper, Finance Coordinator, Grants and Data Manager and Director of Grants & Research. Juanita was recently promoted to Senior Director of Development. Before coming to ForKids, she worked as the Office Manager for Edmarc Hospice for Children and Bookkeeper for H.E.R
Director of Education, Angela Graciani graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in International Studies. She earned her MA in Education from George Washington University. Angela has worked in the field of Education for over 15 years including 2 previous jobs at ForKids in Children’s Education and Adult Education. She has developed and implemented a diverse array of programs including life skills, character building, stress management, ESL, peer tutoring, Mindfulness and bilingual education.
Director of Facilities & Technology, Duane Jackson joined ForKids in 2014 to manage the agency’s expanding operations. His team oversees ForKids facilities, including shelter, housing and offices, the agency’s fleet of vehicles and all technology. Prior to joining ForKids, Duane managed operations for many local companies for the past 30 years.
Regional Director of Services, Delia Johnson joined ForKids in May 2014 and oversees emergency shelter and supportive housing programs across the region. Previously, Delia practiced as a Legal Aid attorney, primarily in the areas of Landlord Tenant and Fair Housing Law. She received her BS in Psychology and Sociology from Boston University and Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School.
